A jury found two men guilty of the murder of American DJ Jam Master Jay on Tuesday. He was a member of the well-known rap formation Run-DMC when he was shot dead in New York in 2002.

It concerns the godson and childhood friend of Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell. The jury considers it proven that they shot the then 37-year-old DJ on October 30, 2002 in his recording studio in the Queens district.

40-year-old Karl Jordan Jr. and 59-year-old Ronald Washington were allegedly kept out of a lucrative drug deal by Jam Master Jay. That’s why they found the musician in his studio and shot him dead.

Prosecutors called witnesses who revealed that Jordan and Washington told them they were behind the murder. The two are later told what their punishment will be. Because they have already been found guilty, they will receive a minimum of twenty years in prison, but they can also receive life in prison.

The murder of Jam Master Jay is considered one of the most infamous in music history. Run-DMC was considered one of the most influential hip-hop formations. The group scored big hits with, among others Sucker MC’s, It’s Like That, It’s Tricky and a cover of the song Walk This Way by and with the rock band Aerosmith.
