Two men detained for illicit manufacture and sale of alcohol In the spotlight

State police (VP) employees have detained two men for illegal production and sale of alcohol, according to information published by the VP.

On October 12 of this year, the Baloži District of the Riga Regional Office of the VP received information that illegal alcohol trade may be taking place on Skultes Street in Riga. In the afternoon of the same day, around 16, Riga Baloži district police officers responded to the received information and went to check the indicated address.

Arriving at the address, law enforcement officers met two suspects in the backyard, carrying one box in their hands. Police officers asked them to show what was in both boxes. Examining them, 0.5 units of 0.5 liter bottles of illegal alcohol were found in each box, for a total of 20 liters.

During a search of the address indicated, the police found and confiscated 12 liters of brags intended for the production of illegal alcohol in the apartment. In order to accurately determine the composition of the removed substances – liquids, the necessary examinations have been assigned to the seized liquids.

Both persons – men born in 1995 and 1967 – were detained and taken to the Baloži district, later placed in a temporary detention facility. Both detainees have previously come to the attention of the police.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for the sale of illegally manufactured (produced) or counterfeit alcoholic beverages or alcoholic liquids, which are not alcoholic beverages, but which are offered as alcoholic beverages – illegal alcoholic beverages. It involves imprisonment for up to one year or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labor, or a fine.
