Two men in France have been arrested for allegedly defrauding elderly people about bed bug treatment they did not need. That writes BBC News Friday.
According to French police, the men went to their victims’ homes, made false checks and charged far too much money for treatment products.
They then allegedly pretended to disinfect the room using aerosols. Before they left, they offered an ointment that they said would keep insects away from people. But the ointment was a simple cream that smelled of eucalyptus.
The victims, many of whom were women over ninety, would have had to pay between 300 and 2,100 euros. A total of 48 people were scammed.
In recent months there has been an increase in the number of bed bug infections in France. This caused panic in the country, which subsequently led to many fake reports and unfounded panic.
