The police with actions in southern Bulgaria against electoral trade and domestic crime. Specialized operations were held simultaneously in Haskovo, Nova Zagora and Sliven.
The police in Kardzhali reported that the mayors of two villages were arrested on suspicion of involvement in corruption schemes. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, four people were questioned during the investigation against the mayors of the villages of Paprat and Kazatsitse.
According to initial data, the 31-year-old and 63-year-old officials are part of a scheme to register for money foreign nationals at addresses in the villages they manage.
Whether these registrations are related to the upcoming elections – the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs do not clarify.
In Haskovo, the police entered shops, pawn shops and car morgues. Patrols stood at all entrances to the Roma neighborhood in the city.
“We check addresses for which we have data that possibly persons commit criminal offenses and those that affect the electoral rights of citizens,” explained senior commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, director of the OD of the Ministry of the Interior-Haskovo.
In the neighborhood, they deny selling their vote, but they know how much is paid.
“20 or 30 BGN will be taken. And so batak. Will we get rich with BGN 20”, commented one of the residents of the neighborhood.
In Sliven and Nova Zagora, the police searched dozens of addresses. Only by noon, a total of 9 people were detained in the action. Lists of personal data, the sum of 11 thousand BGN and gold were found in one of the addresses.
Forest officials, as well as the Consumer Protection Commission, also took part in the action.
