Liverpool –
Liverpool defeat Newcastle United 3-1 in continuation Premier League. The Reds’ two goals were highlighted, because they were considered a bit ‘helped’ by the referee Mike Dean.
Liverpool host Newcastle at Anfield, Friday (17/12/2021) early morning WIB, in the continuation of the English League competition. The hosts had missed first.
In the 7th minute, Liverpool’s goal was burglarized by former player, Jonjo Shelvey. The Reds just replied in the 21st minute.
Diogo Jota equalized the score to 1-1. However, the Portuguese player’s goal process was questioned.
Before the goal was created, two Newcastle players, namely Fabian Schar and Isaac Hayden, had fallen on the field. The two appeared to be clashing heads as they tried to throw a corner kick.
Schar was able to stand a moment later, but Hayden was still lying on the ground in pain. Referee Mike Dean was unmoved by the situation, so the game continued.
In that situation, Jota took the opportunity to make a goal. His free position because Hayden fell made him able to break into Martin Dubravka’s goal. After the goal was created, Newcastle players protested to the referee because it was considered unsportsmanlike.
Liverpool then turned things around through Mohamed Salah’s goal in the 25th minute. And finally, Liverpool secured a 3-1 win over Newcastle United through Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal in the 87th minute.
Liverpool’s third goal was also widely discussed by netizens. Because, before Trent released a hard kick, Mike Dean tried to dodge by passing in front of him. His action was considered to be blocking Dubravka’s view, making it easier for Trent to kick the ball into the net.
On social media, Mike Dean was even insinuated to have given an ‘assist’ to Trent, because it was considered to be helping him by blocking the view of the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Liverpool won 3-1 over Newcastle. After the match, many questioned Mike Dean’s leadership, especially in Liverpool’s first goal.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe questioned Mike Dean’s attitude. “The turning point of this game is very clear. I do not understand how Mike did not stop the game,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“Isaac was clearly holding his head when he fell in the box with another player and it was a goal.
Sunderland legend Micky Gray said the same thing. “You can understand why the Newcastle players surrounded Mike Dean. There were two Newcastle players who fell,” he told talkSport.
“But Liverpool won it well. They defended it, and Jota got the ball into the net. If there was a head-on, Mike Dean should have stopped the game right there. The Liverpool players, to be honest, should have stopped the game themselves,” he said.
