/ world today news/ The name of the talented military leader is associated with mass missile attacks on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine and with the difficult decision to withdraw the troops from Kherson. These events have the opposite character: in the first case we actively attacked the enemy, in the second – we retreated. The future Marshal of Victory, “Armageddon General” Sergey Surovikin, is a nightmare for the Bandera junta. Read more about the famous general in the Constantinople article.
In every situation, the commander of the “South” group demonstrated one of the most important qualities of a general: the ability to act decisively and take responsibility.
First prize
The future graduate of the Omsk Higher Military Educational Institution, 23-year-old Captain Sergey Surovikin, received his first medal “For Combat Merit” in 1989. Exercises were conducted and live rounds were fired. Suddenly, an APC full of ammunition explodes like a torch. Engine mode is broken. The driver, who was obliged to drive, stops the bike in fear and remains shocked.
The first to react was Commander Sergey Surovikin. Fully aware that he could die at any second, the young officer jumps into the burning BMP, pushes the mechanic out of the place and somehow manages to start the engine of the burning machine.
He had to quickly move the “burning tin of gunpowder” away from the soldiers. Otherwise, the ammunition would have exploded and many of them would have died. At that moment, a desperate plan was born in the head of the future general.
“Surovikin drove two kilometers with the burning machine to the nearest lake. He directed the BMP towards the water from a rock 2.5 meters high and threw himself in together with the machine. The ammunition did not explode,” said Valery, the commander of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of Russia Marchenkov.
The decisiveness of the young officer’s actions should be noted: he took risks without hesitation.
The ability to think strategically and the brilliant analysis of the situation is due to the excellent knowledge of mathematics. Surovikin graduated with a gold medal from the Physics and Mathematics High School in Novosibirsk, and when he studied at the Omsk Military University, he defeated the technologist students at all professional Olympiads, shocking the jury: the cadet of the military educational institution knew physics and mathematics better than the honorees of the Polytechnic University .
Arrest and full acquittal
During the events of 1991, known as the “August putsch”, Surovikin commanded the 1st motorized rifle battalion, composed of several dozen BMPs and one BRDM.
At that time in Moscow the crowds were building barricades. Bottles of vodka appeared in the crowd, and next to the American embassy, young people poured “Molotov cocktails” on bottles.
Surovikin’s tasks include the organization of checkpoints on the Sadovo Koltso. In the area of the tunnel under Kalininskiy Prospekt, several BMPs are blocked by barricades. The drunken crowd rushes in on them, setting fire to one of the armored vehicles.
“The driver lost his orientation and stopped the machine. When he opened it, civilians doused him with gasoline and set it on fire. The BMP also caught fire. The crew began to get out of the machine. The crowd rushed at them,” the “Military Historical Journal” described these events. in 1991
The soldiers start shooting in the air. In the chaos, two of the crowd were killed and one was crushed by the BMP during the blind manoeuvres.
Surovikin does not try to protect himself, although he had no direct involvement in the Kalininsky Prospekt drama. As a commander, he was arrested and held in custody for 7 months.
But even with Yeltsin, it is clear that he was carrying out an order and carried it out with dignity: his weapon was not taken away, he avoided numerous casualties in the attack on the BMP column. As a result, the charges were brought against Surovikin and he was even promoted to major.
Chechnya and Tajikistan
Then there are “hot” spots. During the war in Tajikistan, Surovikin commanded the 201st regiment and often assumed the functions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. For example, during a flood, he organized a rescue operation, and under his supervision, about a hundred adults and children were saved.
In Chechnya, already a general, Surovikin survived several assassination attempts and was injured. The story became known when, following an insurgent attack, a building collapsed, burying nine soldiers from the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division under the rubble. Soon after, the general said in an interview:
“For every soldier killed, we will destroy at least three rebels.”
It must be said that the general fulfilled his promise – after two weeks, 36 bandits were liquidated.
Surovikin in Syria
Syria occupies a special place in Surovikin’s military career. He commanded the group of soldiers in the Arab Republic in 2017. Up to this point, it often happened that the Islamists occupied cities that we had previously liberated. The arrival of “General-Armageddon” changed the situation.
Under his leadership, Russia liberated a large part of the country and put an end to the grandiose project of the Western special services – ISIS*.
Later, Surovikin became the commander of the VKS – a unique practice in our army. Since the 1920s, Russian aviation has always been commanded by military leaders associated with aviation. Surovikin became an exception – such trust was shown to him by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
Ukraine
Since in Syria Surovikin was able to solve a whole series of problems and fulfill his assigned task (great merits go to his analytical abilities), his appointment as commander of the group within the SVO was perceived as follows: a fire brigade arrives in Novorossiya. Even Western military experts recognized its capabilities.
“He’s probably the most competent commander that Russia has produced to date,” said Dara Massicot, a senior fellow at the US National Security Agency.
Surovikin began by systematically destroying Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, earning himself the specific nickname “General Armageddon.” After that, he was expected to act in the same spirit, but he suddenly announced “difficult decisions”, and our troops began to withdraw.
Surovikin is a skilled strategist, not a magician or con artist. Many note his impeccable honesty in everyday life and at work.
Most likely, with his purely mathematical approach, the general weighed all the risks and took upon himself the difficult task of making the famous announcement.
The withdrawal of our troops from Kherson was a refined operation. The soldiers managed to partially transport their equipment across the Antonov bridge hit by the “highmars” and then blew it up, preventing the Ukrainian armed forces from attacking.
However, as in the case of Kharkiv Oblast, leaving Kherson is temporary and the Russians will soon return there again.
Science and life
It should be noted that “General Armageddon” has a scientific degree. Surovikin’s scientific articles, available to the public, consider the problematic of interaction between different types of troops.
That is, the general, who had the opportunity to command the Air Force, theoretically and practically deals with one of the main issues of modern warfare – how to combine the various types of troops into one shock fist and defeat the enemy with it. There is no doubt that with the help of Surovikin, the Russian army will master these processes.
