“Be comfortable and know how to ride safely”
Usep (Sports Union for Primary Education) organizes the departmental fortnight of “Knowing how to ride a bicycle” every year for CE2, CM1 and CM2 students.
Thursday and yesterday, nearly two hundred of them took part in these learning days which allow children to acquire real autonomy when using a bicycle.
Aurélie Clouet, sports educator from Usep 28, supervised the workshops which took place at the Grands-Prés stadium. She explains the benefits of this activity: “These are basic exercises that will help children control their bikes, be comfortable and know how to ride safely. It also involves knowing your environment. All the bicycles are provided by the Usep 28 as well as the human resources necessary for the supervision of the workshops. “
Divided into small groups, the children follow the instructions of the supervisors during the exercises: ride like a dancer, lie down a little on the handlebars, stay on their bike but in a stationary situation or even play ball while being on their bike.
Workshops
Each child had to participate in six workshops: obstacle course, mechanical workshop to learn about his bike, balance exercises, changes of direction and anticipation, a quiz on the rules of the road and a fun workshop with bike and ball.
Among the participants of the day, Linda Daguet, a school teacher in Bailleau-l’Évêque, came with her students from the CM1 and CM2 classes. “We wanted to take part in these workshops because we have a project on cycling and we will go with our students from Bailleau-l’Évêque to the Château de Maintenon in June. It was a good time to familiarize the students with cycling and it will improve their learning. ”
