As in several cities in France, a demonstration to demand the reopening of cultural places, and more generally to defend the world of culture, took place in Montluçon (Allier) this Saturday, March 20. Some hundred people responded to the collective’s call Essential 03, including representatives of the CGT, Sud Education and Solidaires unions.
Temporary workers in solidarity with other professions
The demonstrators deplored “the numerous damages in the culture medium”. Temporary workers also said they were “in solidarity with all the professions that are suffering”, such as authors, seasonal workers, the hotel and catering sector …
“This is why, in addition to the reopening of places or cultural spaces and the establishment of a compensation fund for weakened structures, we are asking for the extension of the white year with its expansion to all precarious workers. “

The protesters also demanded the outright withdrawal of the unemployment insurance reform, which they said will further precarize them, as well as that of the comprehensive security law.
Music and songs throughout the event
The Montluçonnais procession thus paraded in music from the place Jean-Dormoy to the municipal theater Gabrielle-Robinne, place Jean-Jaurès. And in this year of the 150th anniversary of the Paris Commune, the demonstrators notably sang “Le Temps des Cerises”, place Piquand.
They also unfurled a banner on the facade of the Le Palace cinema, which read “Culture is our common good”.

Finally, on arrival in front of the Gabrielle-Robinne theater, the members of the collective Essential 03 recalled that the mobilization will continue. Their next general assembly will also take place on Wednesday March 24, at the Théâtre de Ilets, rue de Faucheroux in Montluçon.
