Generally, holidaymakers see their wallets lighten during their holidays. But this is not the case for this couple, who are used to scratching games of chance. The duo, who wished to remain anonymous, won more than 26 million euros thanks to a EuroMillions flash grid validated on July 19 at Viriz, in Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the Hautes-Pyrénées, reports The Dispatch.
After having their winnings validated at a retailer, the couple continued to enjoy their vacation, anxious about losing the piece of paper. “It was unreal. It was impossible to sleep at night. We slept with the ticket for a week because we weren’t at home but on vacation. With a piece of paper that shared our bed and that was going to change our lives,” the winner explained to the newspaper La Dépêche.
The ticket hidden “under a stack of plates”
Worried, the lucky winners also hid the precious sesame “under a pile of plates and in an old piece of furniture” in their rental. It’s hard not to sympathize with this excess of caution when the paper in question is worth 26,181,999 euros. As for the winning numbers, which “have meaning” for the couple, they were 15, 22, 35, 44, 48 with the star numbers 6 and 7.
