The Jagiellonia Białystok players did not have much time to rest. After Wednesday’s match in the Champions League qualifiers, on Saturday (3.08) they played in front of their home crowd in the Ekstraklasa against Stal Mielec and won 2:0.

Pululu opened the scoring

Jagiellonia outscored Stal Mielec in the match, trying not to use all their strength before the matches of the 3rd round of the Champions League football qualifiers. They could have won with Mielec by a higher score, among other things they missed a penalty. The guests did not have a shot on target throughout the match.

In the early stages of the match, the fans gathered at the stadium on Słoneczna Street could have been a bit bored. There were no shots on goal from either side. The most important thing for Jaga fans was that their favorites scored a goal.

The only goal for Jagiellonia Białystok before the break, in the 24th minute, Afimico Pululu scored. The Jaga striker took advantage of another striker’s move – Jesus Imaz – and beat the rivals’ goalkeeper.

The whole action started with the ball being kicked out by Stal’s goalkeeper – Kochalski beyond the half-field line. The ball was headed by Nene, the first-time pass by Imaz behind the defenders’ backs, and Pululu ran quite a distance with the ball himself and beat the helpless visiting goalkeeper.

After taking the lead, Jagiellonia focused on controlling the situation on the pitch. The visitors had difficulty creating goal-scoring opportunities, with Jagiellonia goalkeeper Sławomir Abramowicz playing without having to intervene.

Second half of the match

In the second half, there was more action on the pitch. In the 51st minute, after a well-coordinated, spectacular move by Jagiellonia, Nene received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went wide of the post. In this phase of the match, Jagiellonia played faster, which immediately resulted in a threat in front of the visitors’ goal.

In the second half, Jagiellonia Białystok increased its lead. In the 67th minute Hansen passed the ball to Jesus Imaz and he shot from around the 16-meter mark and beat the visiting goalkeeper. The scoreboard now read 2:0.

A few minutes later, Jagiellonia could have scored a third goal. Diaby Fadiga was fouled in the penalty area and the referee decided that Jagiellonia should be awarded a penalty. The ball was placed at the 11-meter line. Hansen, but he shot badly and Stal’s goalkeeper caught the ball easily.

Jagiellonia could have scored more goals. In the 86th minute, Dominik Marczuk crossed perfectly to Fadiga’s leg, the French striker shot first-time, but Kochalski – the best player in the team from Mielec – saved the shot. In added time, Jarosław Kubicki wasted a great opportunity, deciding to shoot with all his might from the middle of the penalty area and not even hitting the visitors’ goal.

Ultimately Jagiellonia Bialystok won 2:0 and still leads the Ekstraklasa table. On Wednesday (7.08) at 20:45, Jagiellonia will play a match in the 3rd round of the Champions League qualifiers against the Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt at home.
