Two Getafe neighbors who have overcome cancer will present the VIII Pelayo Vida Challenge

Two neighbors from Getafe who have overcome cancer, will tell about their challenge to reach the Arctic Circle, in the presentation of this year’s Pelayo Challenge, which will take place in Getafe next Tuesday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m., in the Municipal Center for Women and Equality. Ana Álvaro and Natalia Cano, participants in the edition of the Pelayo Vida ’66 Norte’ Challenge that last year reached the Arctic Circle.
The mayor, Sara Hernández, and Councilor for Sports, Javier Santos, received these two Getafenses at City Hall last November to personally congratulate them on their incredible life achievements.

Natalia Cano and Ana Álvaro grew up on the same streets without knowing each other, until the Pelayo Vida Challenge brought them together at -15º. They passed the Pelayo Vida Challenge, after two weeks and 2,500 nautical miles sailing from Vigo to the Arctic Circle, together with three other companions. But that is not the most important challenge of their lives, because they are all cancer survivors. Both feats represent a great pride for their families from Getafe.

Natalia and Ana explained during this visit that the most transcendental thing is “the legacy and the teaching that we leave to our children. It is very hard but also very beautiful”. “The message that we send to sick people with this physical and mental challenge is important: you can get out of cancer and do extraordinary things.” “It is exciting that women who have gone through the same thing as us can see themselves reflected.”
And precisely with the aim that this message reaches all the residents of Getafe, the mayor proposed that they participate in the programming of the European City of Sport 2022, through an event in which they can tell their stories, because “you are a For example, you are heroines,” Hernández told them directly after learning about their experiences.

Presentation of the eighth edition of this adventure

Every year, five women cancer survivors carry out a great challenge in one of the most remote places on the planet led by great personalities from the country’s scientific and sports scene. Ana and Natalia will participate in this talk in which they will recount their experience that led them to navigate more than 2,500 nautical miles between the port of Vigo and the Arctic Circle, reaching the famous 66th parallel North, the border between the Atlantic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Arctic. In addition, a preview of the documentary filmed during the Challenge will be screened for the first time.

With the aim of transmitting a positive, loud and clear message to all women who have overcome cancer and also to those who are currently fighting this disease, the VIII Pelayo Vida Challenge is already underway and will arrive in October this year to Jordan.

For several years, the Sports delegation has been developing within its Sports and Health program, and in coordination with the University Hospital of Getafe, the Active Woman project, in which several women diagnosed with breast cancer participate in specific sessions of controlled physical exercise, led by professionals with degrees in Physical Activity Sciences.
