Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Two Muslimah of French resulting injuries stabbed when passing under the Eiffel Tower in Paris last weekend.
As reported by the newspaper New York Post, Thursday (22/10), the incident was caught on camera cellphones and spread among the residents of Paris.
According to French media reports, the two victims were named Kenza and Amel. At that time, the two who came from Algeria were walking in the Eiffel Tower garden with seven relatives.
They were frightened after a pit bull breed brought by two other women approached the group.
Kenza and Amel then asked the two women to tie the dog. However, the owner of the dog who was allegedly drunk was suddenly angry.
They then stabbed the two Muslim women many times.
Kenza reportedly suffered six stab wounds and even penetrated his lungs. He is currently being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile Amel had to undergo surgery due to a stab wound on his hand.
Photos of the victims lying at the scene of the incident circulated widely on social media. The two Muslim women were then helped by a number of other pedestrians who then reported the incident to the local police and paramedics.
The witness said that the perpetrator had said ‘Arab is dirty’ and ‘Return to your country’ when attacking Amel and Kenza. The veil of one of the victims also fell off as a result of the attack.
The local police officers then hunted down and managed to arrest the two women who were 22 years old and suspected of being the perpetrators of the stabbing. They are being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
The incident was reported to have occurred on Sunday (18/10) last week.
The local prosecutor’s office said it was too early to conclude the incident as a hate crime.
This incident further exacerbated tensions in France, after the murder of a history teacher, Samuel Paty, by a young immigrant from Chechnya after discussing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, in class.
Until now there are reported 5 million Muslims in France. They complained that the government’s position of closing mosques and monitoring Muslim institutions after the incident had sparked an increase in anti-Islamic sentiment.
