Two for one. Restaurants recently flagged the worst bad practice

PrahaIN.cz once again talks to owners of classic restaurants and pubs across the Czech Republic. We map the development of prices and the tastes of managers. We also deal with businesses in the Krkonoše Mountains, in the Beskydy Mountains, but also in the Šumava Mountains.

We had the opportunity to talk to several entrepreneurs last weekend, when we were very interested in attending. It is said to be good, beyond expectations. The problem, as restaurateurs and pub owners who were interviewed agreed, was the behavior of some visitors, guests.

Petr Vychodil has been doing business in the city center since the nineties. “I have wanted since 1989, but it was not possible at the time,” he recalls, adding that it was the thing. “Recently, however, there are two bad habits has been in Prague, which, of course, has become a habit. At first, it was the fact that many foreigners began to bring their own drinks to restaurants we believed it, and then we asked them to go and throw the plastic bottles on the street. It surprised Americans and Israelis in particular, because they took the Czech restaurants all over the center as fast food, where you can also bring your own drink,” the quoted businessman told us.

Pavel K., a former waiter at U Malířů Restaurant on Malá Strana, confirmed his words. “We were very famous at the turn of the millennium. Expensive food, extremely expensive wine, but it also happened,” he summarized the answer to our question if customers brought their own products.

It’s a terrible sight

The aforementioned movement did not apply only to Prague, and certainly not only in the past. We heard similar testimonies in Potrefená huse in Vaňkovka in Brno, but also in Luční bouda in the Great Mountains. This evil is said to have disappeared over time. For a new one to come. And this is exactly what was pointed out to us a few days ago by the operators in the Beskydy, Šumava, and also in Kutná Hora. This is a one drink order, but for two.

“It’s true, I’ve experienced it, I’ve seen it, and I wasn’t very happy about it,” admitted Petr Vychodil. “We have beer for 130, for some it’s a lot, but you have to also understand that the rent in the center of Prague is sometimes up to 250,000 per month. So they come, they have a beer, and they pull it together for maybe an hour,” he explained.

Our source from Modrava, who has contacted editors several times by phone about the events there, knows what is being said. “Common practice, common bad practice. There is nothing you can do about it. Parents get half beer, kids get half lemonade. Naturally, we do not ban them, but seeing them is terrible,” he told PrahaIN.cz. The price of a pint of Pilsner Urquell beer in his company is between 55 and 60 crowns. A liter of lemonade costs up to a hundred .It’s been going for a year, maybe a little longer. This is because they’re saving people. We’ll see it in the amount of food served everything as a main course. I don’t blame anyone, but it’s stupid for us,” he said.

Was the dog alive?

Our third source, Richard T., is an entrepreneur from Valašské Meziříčí and has been working in the Beskydy for over fifteen years.

“I know the other way. Last week we were in Pustevny. It was cold, foggy. So we had tea and half a beer. The waiter came to ask if we wanted to throw each separately. So I looked up what he meant. The lady told me that they notice that people get one for two, so she made me very happy,” he said. “Thanks to that, I also had soup, it must have cost more on a hundred. And we got two spoons at once, I felt like a privilege, but what…” he laughed.

The trend of drinking one beer in two was evaluated relatively negatively by two other entrepreneurs from the center of Prague, who both come from the former Yugoslavia. Thanks to the large number of customers, they do not care. However, if there were fewer people, they would stop a similar movement.
