Stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have not been nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or award. The two giants of world football in the 21st century were not included in the list of 30 candidates for the award of the best player of the year according to the magazine “France Football”.
For the first time since 2003, neither the Portuguese nor the Argentine was nominated for the prestigious award. Both are no longer playing in Europe – Leo is a footballer for Inter Miami, and Cristiano – for Saudi Al-Nasser.
Messi has won the Ballon d’Or 8 times in his career, while Ronaldo has triumphed with the award 5 times.
