“Two Firefighters Missing in Baie-Saint-Paul Flooding: Intensive Search Underway”

The two brave firefighters who were helping residents in a house struggling with flooding in the Rang Saint-Georges sector in Baie-Saint-Paul yesterday are still missing.

“By lending them a hand, the two firefighters sank into the river at that place,” said spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Béatrice Dorsainville.

The two sappers were on foot when they were swept away by the current of the Gouffre River, added Agent Dorsainville. The two people that the firefighters were helping were brought to a safe place.

“Quickly, yesterday, a search structure was set up to try to locate them. The SQ helicopter flew over the region for a good part of the day. There was also the emergency response module, so boats, patrol boats and various specialists. During the night, patrollers remained on site to rake the banks, ”explains the spokesperson for the SQ.

Very early this morning, the search resumed. “Various specialists are on site. A boat is notably in the water in the Rivière du Gouffre sector. There are also more than twenty patrol boats and mountain bikes. Divers are also on site. There is also a drone,” says Béatrice Dorsainville.

A Canadian Armed Forces helicopter will also be on site.

“We try to keep hope for the families of these people. Everything is implemented by the SQ and the partners who are very present in research, ”says Béatrice Dorsainville.
