Two fatalities after Boazum train and car collision Inland

It is still unclear how the accident at the unguarded crossing could have happened, a spokesperson said. There were three passengers and the driver on the train, there was no conductor on board. They were “scattered” and were able to continue on their way by bus.

The railway manager reports that the unguarded level crossing will be converted into a guarded crossing at the beginning of 2023 at the latest. At the end of 2020, agreement was reached on this with the province and the municipality. According to ProRail, the construction of a secure level crossing is “complex and time-consuming, precisely with a view to safety. We must connect the level crossing systems well to existing systems and level crossings along the track and with the communication of train traffic control.”

The victims are a 79-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man from Schagen, the police said on Saturday evening.
