A moped rider died on Friday in a serious traffic accident in Aartselaar. He collided with a car at the intersection of Boomsesteenweg and Pierstraat. The man was still taken to hospital, but died of his injuries there. A 45-year-old woman also died on Friday when she was caught by a truck driving towards A12.

The accident with the moped rider happened this morning around 6 o’clock. The moped rider rode on Boomsesteenweg in the direction of Antwerp. It collided with a passenger car at the intersection with Pierstraat, ‘says Robert Verschueren of the Hekla police zone. “The moped rider was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died of his injuries there.”
It is not yet clear how the accident could have happened. A traffic expert came on site to map out the exact circumstances of the accident. Before that, the Boomsesteenweg was blocked for a while at the intersection with Pierstraat. The accident happened at an intersection with traffic lights that were functioning properly.
