Two fan zones, 6,800 police officers… The system in Paris for the Champions League final

The Paris police headquarters is taking several measures to “guarantee the safety of spectators and supporters” et “to ensure the smooth running” of the match which will oppose Liverpool to Real Madrid for the final of the Champions League, Saturday May 28 at the Stade de France, indicates the prefecture in a press release published Thursday. A total of 6,800 police and gendarmes will be mobilized. The Home Office expects 70,000 British supporters.

Two large fan zones will be set up for the occasion. One, in the Legion of Honor park in Saint-Denis, will welcome Spanish supporters with a ticket. The other, Place de Cours de Vincennes in the 12th arrondissement of Paris “for English fans not holding tickets for the match”. Those who have a ticket will be “invited to join the Stade de France as soon as possible”.

A protective perimeter will be set up around these fan zones. “Any gathering of a protest nature is prohibited, illegal objects or objects considered dangerous are not admitted (weapons, sharp objects, pyrotechnic articles, glass objects, alcohol)”. Fans will be able to eat or drink on site. And entertainment will be offered.

Up to 44,000 Liverpool supporters will be able to gather in the fan zone of the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It will open in the early afternoon and close at the end of the match.

The Saint-Denis fan zone will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. She is “dedicated to the reception of supporters of the Real Madrid team, provided with a ticket for the match”. Nearly 6,000 people can be accommodated there. This fan zone will then reopen for “residents previously registered with the city of Saint-Denis.”

The consumption and sale of alcohol will be prohibited “in public spaces, in establishments open to the public, in drinking establishments”from Saturday 6 p.m., until 2 a.m. on Sunday, “on a perimeter established in the municipality of Saint-Denis, and in particular around the stadium.”

The Paris police headquarters also specified that it will be forbidden to drink alcohol in Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports. Nevertheless, “Alcohol consumption will be possible inside the Stade de France, throughout the match.”

RATP unions have called for a strike for RER A and RER B agents. There should be fewer trains on these lines this weekend, according to France Blue Paris.

The city of Paris is also putting in place parking bans in certain streets.

In addition, the Paris police chief has issued an order prohibiting Spanish and English supporters from going to the area around the avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, from Thursday May 26 from 3 p.m. to Sunday, May 29 at 6 p.m.
