In an explosion during an international military exercise in Vyskov, Czech Republic, two Dutch army soldiers were injured on Thursday. 23 other participants, 19 of whom were Dutch, were taken to hospital for a check-up.
The explosion occurred during an exercise with chemicals. How the explosion could have started is not yet clear.
The injuries of the two soldiers seem to be not too bad, a Defense spokesperson told NU.nl. The duo are in a nearby hospital for observation and were able to inform the home front themselves.
The medical check-up of the nineteen other Dutch people has not revealed any further details, the spokesman said. The soldiers return to the Netherlands on Friday.
During the two-week exercise in the Czech Republic, which was due to end Friday, military personnel will practice, among other things, detecting and identifying chemicals and disinfecting rooms, people and vehicles.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has instructed the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee to investigate the incident.
