Two doses of the vaccine will probably not be enough. The opposition is calling for revaccination

All over the world, it is already addressing the need for a third dose. According to the latest Israeli study, the effectiveness of vaccines drops to about 64 percent six months after vaccination. But it still protects against the serious course of the disease. The Czechia is still hesitant to revaccinate.

“We are waiting for a broader opinion, especially the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which would say that it is necessary to carry out revaccination at a certain time, for example, certain groups of the population,” said Health Minister Adam Vojtech (for YES).

According to the opposition, the Ministry of Health should not wait for anything, but is already preparing a revaccination plan. “Let’s not just wait for EMU, but let’s negotiate with Pfizer, for example, about possible supplies for revaccination,” advises MP Vít Kaňkovský (KDU-ČSL).

The Ministry of Health recently abolished the nine-month period after vaccination as a period of immunity. So officially it has no expiration date. In fact, according to experts, there are hundreds of thousands of people in the population who may no longer have antibodies in their bodies in a few weeks.

“As a doctor and a senior, I was vaccinated from the beginning of the year and therefore I should most likely be revaccinated by the end of the year. I received the Pfizer vaccine and I would like to be revaccinated with the same one,” said TOP 09 vice-president Vlastimil Válek.

“Companies like Pfizer, Johnson, etc. will have to develop variants of their vaccines to cover the changing spectrum of coronavirus,” said MP Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS).

And companies seem to be working on it. For example, Pfizer and BioNTech want to ask U.S. regulators to authorize a third dose to boost coronavirus vaccination, and are working to develop a special version of the highly contagious delta vaccine.

“In our opinion, the government should address the issue of the Czech vaccine for voluntary vaccination, about which we will have full information and we will have full control over it,” thinks SPD chairman Tomio Okamura.

According to Minister Vojtěch, revaccination with another dose would no longer be in large vaccination centers, but at general practitioners.
