Almost half a year ago, two devices for the treatment of waste water began operating in the same number of microenterprises dedicated to denim washing in San Mateo Ayecac, municipality of Tepetitla, in order to contribute to the sanitation of the Atoyac-Zahuapan River, Serafín Ríos reported. Eliorza, president of the Tlaxcala College (Coltlax).
He recalled that to develop this pilot project, a multidisciplinary group was created made up of Coltlax and the Applied Chemistry Research Center (CIQA) of Saltillo, Coahuila, as well as Querétaro, and the College of San Luis Potosí.
He commented that in the month of May the first two pieces of equipment were installed, since the intention is to install them in around 33 microenterprises in that town, in order to treat wastewater generated by washing jeans.
“The interesting thing is that the microentrepreneurs who have laundries have shown a willingness to take on their part of the problem” that exists in that region, he stressed.
He reviewed that this technology was designed by the Applied Chemistry Research Center, and he also financed one of the devices and Coltlax the other, whose cost fluctuates between 13,000 and 15,000 pesos.
One of the equipment was placed in “Mrs. They wash the denim, but three others also dye that fabric, he noted.
“So it is a complicated problem when it is dyed and washed, the most important thing is that they are showing a willingness to do their part,” he stressed.
He added that in these actions Coltlax works in coordination with the Environmental Protection Attorney’s Office of the State of Tlaxcala (Propaet), with the State Environment Secretariat (SMA) and with the State Water and Sanitation Commission (CEAS), related institutions. directly with this matter.
He commented that Propaet first began to draw attention to these microentrepreneurs and then warn them that it would impose sanctions; However, upon noticing that there is a willingness to collaborate, the agency decided to give them a break “so that they can invest.”
He stressed that the device is not expensive, compared to other industrial equipment, since it is handmade and is adapted to treat an average of 100 liters of water daily.
He emphasized that it is an important step for these businessmen to accept “that they are part of the solution and also of that problem” of impact on the environment by dumping their waste without any type of technology that purifies it.
He insisted that in addition to the use of these devices, at the same time work is being done at another level, which is that of containment, that is, not authorizing the operation of more industries of this line.
He explained that in the first months of this pilot project, one of the situations that had to be solved was related to a filter in which a certain type of sand must be placed, since the designers first used one from Coahuila, since in That entity is located the Applied Chemistry Research Center, but they observed that this material is different from that of Tlaxcala.
