Two detainees escape from Belgian prison on New Year’s Eve | Abroad

According to the initial results of the investigation, it was an improvised escape. During the evening walk around 7 p.m. Friday, the three would have tried to climb a first wall to gain access to a roundabout. Then they went over a second fence. The third person was caught after taking a different route.

The two fugitives, who come from Morocco, are in the country illegally. The first, Amine Al Alaoui, born in 2004, was convicted twice in 2021 for theft with violence or threats. He was jailed for a total of 48 months. The second, Azzedine Touzi, born in 1994, has been convicted several times of robbery, illegal residence, carrying a prohibited weapon, attempted robbery and assault.

The two fugitives are not considered dangerous, according to the Belgian prosecutor. The third detainee, a 30-year-old Libyan convicted of theft, is being questioned, a spokesman said on Saturday afternoon. The detainees may have received outside help.
