The police received reports about the shooting incidents around 2:25 p.m. First shots were fired in a house on Heiman Dullaertplein. The suspect then entered a training building at the hospital on Rochussenstraat, about 1.5 kilometers away, where someone was also seriously injured. Then he went to the hospital.
After the shootings, a fire broke out in both the home and the hospital. Both fires are now under control.

The shooting at the hospital caused panic, an eyewitness said. “There was a lot of panic and screaming. I was in the hospital. I fled from there to the Sophia Children’s Hospital.”
After the incident, people had to leave the building in phases: “We have to wait and see. I didn’t hear any shots, just the panic and so I started to act accordingly.”
The training building was evacuated first. People went outside with their hands on their heads.
