The US government will conduct an investigation into how the flat could have collapsed, sources report to Reuters news agency. The cause of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South complex is not yet clear.

Three years ago, however, an engineer warned of major structural damage to the twelve-storey building. The owners’ association warned in April that the damage in the car park had worsened and also reported damage to the roof. Work would soon begin on the 40-year-old complex.
President Joe Biden visits the crash site today with his wife Jill. “It is an unimaginably difficult time for the families endured by this tragedy,” Biden said earlier.
