Two people died and two others suffered minor injuries in a collision between two light passenger vehicles that occurred today on Estrada Nacional (EN) 4, in the Montemor-o-Novo area (Évora), revealed the Civil Protection.
A source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Évora explained to Lusa news agency that the two victims of the accident, whose warning was given to firefighters at 4:53 pm, were in one of the accident vehicles.
“They are a man and a woman, between 75 and 80 years old, occupants of the same vehicle”, he said, adding that the two slightly injured were in the other vehicle: “It is also a man and a woman, in the house 45 years old”.
The two people who were injured have already been transported by firefighters to the Espírito Santo de Évora Hospital, indicated the CDOS, not knowing whether the fatal victims had already been taken to the Legal Medicine services of the same hospital unit.
At around 18:10, the section of EN4 where the accident occurred was still cut in both directions, according to the same Civil Protection source.
23 workers were mobilized for the site, supported by 10 vehicles, including firefighters, the GNR, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the company Infraestruturas de Portugal.
The INEM helicopter was still activated, but was eventually demobilized, the source added.
