A terrible accident. Two people died and six others were injured in a collision involving three vehicles on the A1 motorway at the border between Lille and Ronchin, on the night of Friday 27 to Saturday 28 August 2021.
Two people killed instantly
According to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service, the tragedy occurred around 1 a.m. The firefighters had to take care of two victims, prisoners of their vehicle. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, they were declared dead at the scene of the accident. It would be a young man and a young woman.
Six other injured victims, including four seriously affected, were transported to the Lille University Hospital.
A vehicle in the wrong direction?
According to our colleagues from the Northern voice, the accident would have been caused by a car which would have entered the wrong way on the highway, hitting head-on another vehicle, then a third was hit. It was the occupants of the reverse vehicle who were killed.
From now on, a police investigation will have to determine the exact circumstances of this terrible tragedy.
