Castellón, Aug 22 (EFE).- A 44-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl died in a traffic accident that occurred late Wednesday on the N-232 highway in Morella (Castellón) in which four people, including a 9-month-old baby, also suffered injuries of varying severity.
The accident, which involved three vehicles, occurred for reasons not specified minutes before 11:00 p.m. at kilometer 48.100 of the aforementioned road.
Firefighters from the Baix Maestrat and Els Ports regional fire stations were dispatched to the scene and had to free two people trapped inside, according to the Provincial Consortium.
Sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) have reported that after being alerted of the accident, two SAMU units, a SVB unit and a Primary Care doctor were mobilised.
As a result of the accident, a 44-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl died, and the emergency medical services assisted four other people who were injured to varying degrees and were transferred to Vinaròs Hospital.
They are a 28-year-old woman who suffered a fractured femur; a 56-year-old man with multiple contusions and trauma; a 13-year-old boy with multiple trauma; and a 9-month-old baby with a mild contusion.
The Morella City Council has declared a day of official mourning for this Thursday after the traffic accident, as one of the fatal victims was a resident of the municipality and a member of a festival group, and has suspended the events scheduled for this day during the massive Sexenni festivities.
