Tunisian President Kais Saïed decided on Monday to suspend work in state institutions for two days from Tuesday, with the exception of the army and the police.
Via its press release consulted by the Anadolu Agency, the Presidency of the Republic also specified that the internal security forces, the military, customs agents, health professionals and staff working in educational establishments, childhood, training and higher education are not affected by this judgment.
The extension of the duration of the work suspension is possible, according to the same source.
This decision comes in parallel with the announcement of the President of Tunisia to impose a nighttime curfew for one month, from July 26.
Saïed had announced, during the evening of Sunday, that he decided to remove the head of government Hichem Mechichi from his functions and to freeze the powers of the Parliament. He also announced that he will assume executive power, with the help of a head of government he will soon appoint.
His decisions come in the wake of popular protests that have taken place in several governorates demanding the resignation of the government, in a context of economic difficulties and a political crisis that has lasted for months in the country.
