Two countries will start negotiations on joining the European Union – UNIAN

We are talking about Albania and North Macedonia.

The Council of the European Union has agreed to open accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia European Union.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, who chairs the EU Council in the second half of the year, announced this in Twitter.

“The EU Council, which is chaired by the Czech Republic, has just agreed to open accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia,” Fiala stressed.

According to him, another important step has been taken towards the rapprochement of the Western Balkans with the European Union.

Help UNIAN. As you know, Albania applied for EU membership on April 28, 2009. Since June 2014, she has been a candidate for membership.

North Macedonia applied for EU membership in 2004 and became a candidate for membership the following year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on February 28, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.

17 June European Commission recommended that the European Council provide Ukraine with a European perspective and candidate status for EU membership.

Already on June 23, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on granting Ukraine candidate status for membership in the European Union. It was also decided to grant this status to Moldova.
