Two construction workers killed in tragedy at JFK airport construction site

Two construction workers died Monday after being trapped under construction rubble at John F. Kennedy International Airport, authorities said.

The incident happened around noon, the FDNY and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

Emergency services pronounced both workers dead at the scene, according to the FDNY.

Governor Kathy Hochul posted a message on social media about the accident.

“My thoughts are with the loved ones of the two people who tragically died while working on a construction site in @JFKairport today. @PANYNJ is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident,” the governor wrote.

Following the incident, an order to stop work on the site was issued.

Authorities did not immediately release the names or ages of the workers. It was not clear what job they were doing when they died.

“The Port Authority is conducting a thorough investigation and will cooperate with all other investigative agencies,” the agency said in a statement.
