Two children were killed in an accident with a truck in the center of Antwerp on Tuesday morning. That’s what the local police say.

The accident happened around 9.15 am in Lange Leemstraat, near Sint-Vincentiusstraat. “The two victims would have moved on a non-electric scooter,” said spokesman Willem Migom of the Antwerp police. The circumstances are fully investigated and a traffic expert is on site.
The first observations would show that the truck came from Sint-Vincentiusstraat and wanted to turn left into Lange Leemstraat. At the same time, the children crossed the Lange Leemstraat at the zebra crossing. Several witnesses saw the accident happen. ‘Just like the family, they also receive victim care, of course’, says Migom.
Due to the accident, Lange Leemstraat is completely closed to traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists. ‘The streets that connect to this intersection are also closed. Avoid the area and let the emergency services do their job,” said Migom.
