Two cases of thrombosis after AstraZeneca vaccination in our country, “but no causal relationship for the time being” | Inland

According to the vaccination task force, there is no reason to stop vaccination with AstraZeneca in our country. In the past few days, there had been some concern as some people were diagnosed with blood clots after being vaccinated. A number of countries therefore decided to stop administering the vaccine from the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday already that we must continue to use the vaccine from AstraZeneca, today / Saturday the vaccination task force reiterates that message.

“As of March 10, 30 cases of thrombosis were reported to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) following an injection of AstraZeneca, out of a total of 5 million vaccines administered,” said Pierre Van Damme, member of the vaccination task force. Two cases of thrombosis have been reported after vaccination with AstraZeneca in Belgium.

No indications of connection

“There is currently no evidence of a causal relationship between vaccination with AstraZeneca and blood clots. The rate of thrombosis in vaccinated individuals does not exceed what is observed in the general unvaccinated population. that of the European Medicines Agency, the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 outweigh the risks, ”said Van Damme.

The task force does emphasize that the EMA continues to work with all Member States and continues to check in detail how safe the vaccines are.

No vaccine shopping

The recommendations will therefore not change, not even for pregnant women. “If a pregnant woman is called up for vaccination, she can accept that offer, regardless of the type of vaccine,” said Van Damme.

The chairman of the vaccination task force, Dirk Ramaekers, added that there will be no freedom of choice for vaccines. “Vaccine shopping is and remains impossible, we have three vaccines that are considered good vaccines from a medical scientific point of view.”

Report

The vaccination task force is also calling for side effects after vaccination to be reported via the website of the FAMHP. Each declaration is then analyzed and on that basis a clearer policy can be drawn up.
