two cases of South African variants successfully observed in Ajaccio hospital

Would the South African variant have turned to Corsica?

According to our information, two people who tested positive for Covid-19 at Ajaccio hospital are suspected of having contracted the South African variant. Arrived by plane with a negative test, the two people presented symptoms of Covid-19 three days later.

This is also what the Corsican Regional Health Agency confirms this Tuesday 23 February: “A couple residing in Corse-du-Sud, probably contracted the virus during a recent trip to PACA where viral circulation is important. Tested negative 72 hours before boarding, they declared symptoms a few days after their return to France. Corsica.”

The couple then made a new test which would present suspicions of a South African and Brazilian variant during its screening carried out at the Bastia hospital. As the procedure calls for, the sample was then sent to a mainland laboratory to confirm or deny the variant trail.

This February 23, it is still being analyzed, which does not yet allow us to certify that it is really this variant. However, the ARS stresses that the contact persons are isolated.

The couple were hospitalized in the Covid department of the Ajaccio Hospital Center. Now their health is stable.

As a reminder, according to the scientific community and the virologist, Mylène Ogliastro, attacking the immune system, it would call into question the effectiveness of the vaccine and could again infect people who have already had Covid-19. However, the symptoms are similar to others, asymptomatic forms are also possible and it would not be more fatal.
