Some countries, including Denmark, Austria and Iceland, are temporarily withdrawing the AstraZeneca vaccine after some people developed blood clots after their vaccination. Yesterday, Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke said that no cases of blood clots had been reported in our country. But today, Saturday, his cabinet announced that there are now two reports to the Federal Agency for Medicines (FAMHP). ‘This does not mean that honor is a causal link,’ explains the cabinet of the minister. ‘It is a safe and effective vaccine for all persons over 18 years old,’ the minister’s spokesman told the French-language newspaper The evening.
Our country will not stop vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine. According to Vandenbroucke, there is no reason to change the vaccination strategy. ‘Unfortunately, every day you have people who are affected by thrombosis. It’s about dozens of people every week. So there is no connection with the vaccine ‘, Vandenbroucke responded on Saturday Radio 1. Dirk Ramaekers, head of the vaccination task force, does not understand the decision of the countries that will stop it. ‘We met with all the experts and compared all the data and the AstraZeneca vaccine turns out to be a very solid and reliable vaccine.’
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) was quick to emphasize that there is no evidence whatsoever that the vaccination is causing the blood clots: the number of reports is no higher for vaccinees than for the rest of the population. The EMA starts an investigation.
