Two corpses of wild geese were confirmed positive for wild influenza this Friday, January 7, in Vitry-en-Charollais (Saône-et-Loire). To stop the spread of the virus, the prefecture has in particular prohibited the exit of poultry from henhouses.
After the Covid, it is the turn of avian influenza to be talked about. This Friday, January 7, 2022, two corpses of wild geese tested positive for the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus, in the territory of Vitry-en-Charollais.
The prefecture has issued a decree to put in place restrictive measures to prevent the spread of the virus and detect its circulation. Among these measures, we find:
- the census of private farmyards. Non-professional poultry keepers must make themselves known to their town hall
- prohibition of entry or exit of poultry in henhouses
- ban on game bird hunting
- authorization (conditionally) to hunt furry game
These measures apply at least until January 15, 2022, in the municipalities of Vitry-en-Charollais, Paray-le-Monial, Saint-Yan and Varenne-Saint-Germain.
Other measures were already implemented before the prefectural decree, such as the obligation of confinement or netting of private poultry yards, as well as the daily monitoring of the health of poultry. In the event of abnormal animal mortality, a report to the Departmental Directorate of Population Protection is required.
As a reminder, avian influenza is not transmissible to humans through the consumption of poultry meat, eggs, fatty liver and more generally any food product.
