“VYou will be the first to test these underwear”introduces the director of the Nice prison, Valérie Mousseeff, to twenty women seated opposite them.
At his side, this Thursday: Meriam, French ambassador for a new start-up who will sell menstrual panties, and Maryam, representative of the Leclerc stores in Béziers (Hérault).
The first made the trip from Paris to offer two period panties to each prisoner in Nice. The second arrives from Hérault, arms full of cosmetics. “It’s an important moment, it changes from the repressive. It’s a moment that we take for them”summarizes Valérie Mousseeff.

The questions fly
Sure enough, the two groups of twenty inmates greeted them with big smiles, thanks and a few questions. “Is this suitable for all streams?”, “How long do they keep?”, “How do we wash them?”: “A little water, soap and you dry. But rinse them well”advises Meriam.
For the director of the prison, the establishment passes a milestone with this donation. “It’s ecological, comfortable and economical. When they go out, they will no longer need to buy disposable sanitary protection”believes Valérie Mousseeff.
After distributing the cosmetics, Maryam asked the inmates what they were missing between the prison walls. “Scrub”, “hair dyes”, “some nail polish”, etc they list.
As they left, two young girls wanted to greet them. “Thank you for what you do, it’s important to feel like women. Even here”they let go, smiling.
