Two Bulgarians who were transporting dozens of Afghan citizens in a minibus, arrested for migrant trafficking

Two Bulgarian citizens were pre-arrested for 30 days for migrant trafficking, after they were spotted transporting 30 Afghan citizens in a minibus, within the radius of Feteşti, IPJ Ialomiţa informs on Wednesday.

The police officers of the Ialomiţa County Transport Police Service within the Constanţa Regional Transport Police Section detected in traffic, on Tuesday, within the radius of the Feteşti municipality, a minibus driven by a 28-year-old Bulgarian citizen, who was accompanied by a compatriot aged 29 years old.

“Following the control carried out by the police on the means of transport, 30 people, foreign citizens, between the ages of 15 and 39, were found inside. Given that the detected persons could not provide proof of legal entry into the territory of Romania and could not present documents of legal residence, they were taken to the headquarters of the Feteşti Railway Transport Police Station. After the checks, it turned out that they are citizens of Afghan nationality, who declared that they crossed the border on foot, with the intention of arriving in a country from the Schengen area”, according to a press release sent by IPJ Ialomiţa.

On Tuesday, the police ordered the detention of the Bulgarian citizens for 24 hours, and during this day they were presented to the court, which ordered their arrest for 30 days.

Those in question were incarcerated at the Detention and Preventive Arrest Center within the Ialomiţa County Police Inspectorate.

The Transport police carried out the criminal investigation under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Ialomiţa Court and collaborated in this case with representatives of the Coast Guard and the Ialomiţa Immigration Bureau, with a view to the repatriation of the Afghans.
