Police have arrested a second suspect in an investigation into the shooting incident in the California capital, Sacramento, that killed six people and injured 12 others over the weekend. Smiley Martin, 27, was arrested in hospital, where he was admitted with gunshot wounds. Earlier, the police already had his brother Dandrae Martin arrested for involvement in the shooting.
A concerned official told AP that Smiley Martin had posted live images on Facebook just hours before the deadly incident of him brandishing a gun. According to the official, it is now being investigated whether the weapon seen in the video was also used in the shooting.
Martin was previously convicted of assaulting a girlfriend, whom prosecutors say he had dragged out of the house by her hair and beaten with a belt. He was released on parole in February.
Hundred bullets
Investigators believe the Martin brothers were carrying stolen weapons. On the basis of, among other things, financial documents and messages on social media, it is being investigated how and when they acquired the weapons. The exact role of the two in the events in Sacramento is still unclear.
In the shooting last Sunday morning, more than 100 bullets were fired within a minute in the entertainment center of Sacramento. According to local media, an argument in a cafe preceded it. At the time of the incident, many visitors from cafes and nightclubs were on their way home.
