Two attacks in one weekend at Bayonne hospital, two doctors file complaints

The healthcare staff working in the emergency department of the Côte Basque Hospital Center in Bayonne suffered two verbal and physical attacks on the weekend of August 3 and 4. This was learned on Sunday France Blue Basque Country with the director of the establishment, confirming information from Journal South West.

The first attack took place on the night of Friday to Saturday. A patient became angry when he woke up in a room in the emergency department. He hit, made death threats against the staff and damaged equipment. The police had to intervene to help members of staff control him.

The second attack took place this Sunday, early in the morning. A man, who admitted to having taken drugs, was admitted to the emergency room. He also got carried away, insulted and threatened many people before taking out a box cutter that he had in his pocket. The gendarmerie and the police intervened to neutralize him.

Two doctors have filed a complaint. According to Frédéric Espenel, director of the Bayonne hospital, two healthcare workers will do the same in the coming days.This kind of thing is happening more and more regularly.”estimated Frédéric Espenel on France Bleu Pays Basque. After an assault at the beginning of the year, a security guard was put in place in the emergency room. But the service must also manage increased activity in recent days.
