Two Aragonese are presented to the NBA draft

The day when an Aragonese set foot in the best basketball league in the world is one step closer. Zaragoza’s Carlos Alocén and Jaime Pradilla have signed up for the 2021 NBA draft, the entrance hall to the prestigious American championship. The event, in which the franchises choose the following players who will make up the best league in the world, will take place on the night of July 29.

Alocén and Pradilla make up an extensive list of 353 players, of which 57 are international. This extensive list of players will have until July 19, ten days before the event, to decide whether to keep or remove their name from the 2021 edition, being able to participate next year if they so decide. In fact, Alocen himself already delayed his registration in the draw last season, when he already had options, according to American forecasts, of being drafted.

On this occasion, his presence seems safe. The Aragonese Real Madrid base has a very good poster in the United States and his progression is closely watched by several American franchises. After making his debut in the ACB at the age of 15 and 10 months with Casademont Zaragoza, the Spaniard took steps forward in his career until he settled in the first team in the three subsequent seasons, signing for Madrid in 2019.

In current campaign, Alocén has settled in Madrid, where he has completed a solid year in a complex position after the departure of his teammate Facundo Campazzo precisely to the NBA. The Zaragoza player has averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 assists in the ACB and 3.9 points, 2.3 assists and 51% in field goals in the Euroleague. Absolute international with Spain, Alocen is closely watched by the NBA and the first estimates place him in the second round of the draft, around 41st place..

The case of Pradilla

Different is the situation of Jaime Pradilla. Also a youth squad player for Casademont Zaragoza, this season he played his first season at Valencia Basket. In the ACB, he has averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds; while in the Euroleague his numbers have been 2.9 points and 1.3 sacks per game. Your chances of being chosen in the draft are minimal, but will depend on what you are able to show off in interviews with franchises and in private pre-event workouts. At the moment, the predictions do not place him among the 60 players who would make up the draft.

In addition to Alocén and Pradilla, the also Spanish Usman Garuba, Joel Parra, Santi Aldama and Eric Vila have entered the draft, an event in which no Spaniard has been selected since 2015 (Juancho Hernangómez). Before, illustrious people such as Pau Gasol, Raúl López, Juan Carlos Navarro, Fran Vázquez, Sergio Rodríguez, Rudy Fernández, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Ricky Rubio, Sergio Llull or Nikola Mirotic were drafted in different years.
