Two apps required: Message box app only to be used together with DigiD app | NOW

People with the Government’s Berichtenbox app on their smartphones can no longer use the app independently. Instead of logging in with a PIN, the DigiD app should now also be installed on the smartphone.

The Berichtenbox app allows people to receive messages from government agencies, such as the Tax Authorities. Previously, users could enter a PIN to read the messages after opening the app.

Instead, logging in now goes via the DigiD app. This means that the Berichtenbox app is useless without the DigiD app; people need both apps.

In turn, people must enter a five-digit PIN code in their DigiD app if they want to use the app. This way they do not have to log in again and again with a username and password.

The Berichtenbox is the first government app that works together with the DigiD app, reports the administrator Logius Monday. In the future, other apps should also work in the same way.

People can also use the DigiD app to log in to various other government services. If they do that via their smartphone, the app opens automatically if users choose that option.
