Two and a half hours underground and finally that ‘breath’ Special | Deshabhimani

Kottayam
Two and a half hours underground for life. Moments that took the breath away from the entire country. In the end, his “breathless laughter” was on the verge of death. Firefighters and local people joined forces to rescue a guest worker who was injured in a landslide during the construction of Kaiyala. Life was maintained by administering oxygen and water through a tube.

The incident happened on Thursday at 9.15 am in Mathilkavi near Natakam Maryapalli. Sushant Midya (24), originally from Bengal, fell underground while digging to tie a handrail to the earthen mound of a private house. Seeing the landslide, the two people who were with him ran away.

Sushant was underground below her waist. Firefighters arrived from Kottayam and while moving the land collapsed again and all the people were buried under the soil. The soil overhead was quickly removed and made suffocating. The Changanassery Fire Department soon arrived as well. Sushant was lying in a hole three meters deep with one leg bent. He was dug out around 11.30am by digging another hole nearby using JCB’s. Kottayam Gov. Sushant, who is being treated at the General Hospital, is not seriously injured. The prime minister congratulated the police, fire brigade personnel, officials and locals who rescued Sushant.
