Two alleged Russian spies arrested in Germany – Diario La Página – 2024-04-20 11:20:45

German police arrested two alleged Russian spies on the orders of the prosecutor general’s office, as confirmed after information about it circulated.

The two men were suspected of preparing acts of sabotage with explosives in Germany on behalf of the Russian secret services and the arrest took place in the city of Bayreuth (northern Bavaria).

The main suspect is a 39-year-old Russian-German citizen whom a statement from the prosecutor’s office identified as Dieter S.

The prosecution considers that Dieter S. monitored, with his accomplice, Alexander J., also a Russian-German citizen, facilities of the US Armed Forces in Germany, including an important practice field where Ukrainian soldiers receive training.

Contact with Russian secret services

The prosecution assures that Dieter S. has contacts with the Russian secret services with which he has been studying possible acts of sabotage since October 2023, to undermine the military support provided by Germany to Ukraine.

Dieter S. declared himself willing to carry out attacks against military and industrial infrastructure in Germany, for which he collected information on possible targets and had the support of Alexander J. since March 2024.

On the other hand, Dieter S. is suspected of fighting between December 2014 and September 2016 in an armed unit of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, classified by the prosecution as a terrorist organization.
