One of those wolves died of heart failure after the escape. The other was seriously injured but is now doing well, a spokesperson for the park said.
The escaped wolves had the lowest rank in the pack. They got so stressed that they could disrupt the fence in an ‘adrenaline rush’. The park is now laying an extra layer of concrete under the fence around the wolf enclosure, so that undercutting cannot happen again, the spokesperson said. Until that job is done, the pack stays in a separate area that is not visible to the public.

Danger of combat
The two she-wolfs are in separate enclosures and are not allowed to come near the five wolves that now make up the pack. According to the park, the group has been so disrupted by the events that fighting would break out immediately if the she-wolves rejoin the other wolves.
The two escaped wolves also had bite marks, which may have occurred during an attack. They fled when construction noise broke out near their residence. “That was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” the spokesperson said.
