‘Two admitted children in the Kleve region on the mend’ | Abroad

The German region probably has a better idea of which variants are going around because five percent of the incoming laboratory samples are examined: here it is specifically looked at which corona variant is in the samples. This does not yet happen often in the Netherlands, which is probably the reason why relatively few omicron cases have been found here.

There were nineteen people in Kreis Kleve on Thursday who they suspect are infected with the omicron variant, a day earlier only two. District administrator Silke Gorißen says in the NRZ that he is concerned about the development of the omicron variant in the Kleve region. Children may have also become infected with the variant, but they show no or only mild symptoms. A child admitted with respiratory problems did not appear to suffer from the omicron variant on further analysis.

Following the example of the new Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, Gorißen therefore states that the third vaccination is necessary to be well protected against the omicron variant. The country is moving towards a vaccination obligation next year. The Bundestag in Berlin approved this on Friday.

Wedding

In the municipality of Rees, belonging to the Kleve region, there is an omicron outbreak that can be traced back to a wedding in South Africa, which was attended by many residents. Those involved are required to quarantine for two weeks.

But other cases of infection in the Kleve region cannot be traced back to the outbreak in Rees. “There is a great risk that omicron will spread much faster,” Gorißen says in the NRZ. The health services have been expanded and all staff have been placed on contact tracing, among other things.
