Twitter will offer paid subscriptions

The blue bird social network seeks to diversify its sources of income: in North America, users of the social network will be able to become “super followers” and receive exclusive content by subscribing to influencer accounts for 3, 5 or 10 dollars a month.

This Wednesday, September 1, Twitter has launched a new formula that could well explode: paid subscriptions to certain accounts. Officially, it is about remunerating content creators more effectively, but it is also for the social network to find new sources of income to meet its struggling finances.

Influencers – experts in makeup or sports, for example – will be able to offer their audience to become “super followers” (“super subscribers”), and thus receive exclusive content (advice, stories, analyzes, etc.) in subscribing to their account for 3, 5 or 10 dollars (2.50 to 8.50 euros) per month. ” Inasmuch as super follower, you can participate in conversations to which only other paying subscribers have access », said Esther Crawford, a product director of the social network, in a statement released Wednesday.

Inspired by the ClubHouse application, Twitter will add the possibility of offering exclusive “Spaces” (audio rooms), newsletters or even anonymity for subscribers. “And don’t worry, public tweets don’t go away”, she specifies.

The feature debuts in the United States and Canada, for a limited group of creators in possession of an iPhone or iPad (Apple). It needs to be gradually extended geographically and available on the other dominant Android operating system.

The Californian firm is stepping up experiments to find new sources of income: in Last May, Twitter launched its « Tip Jar » (“Tip box”), a tool that allows users to donate to their favorite accounts.

And you, would you be interested in these new features for your own account?
