Twitter will again be handing out blue ticks to users

The social network has that on its website announced. Twitter stopped the approval process three years ago after complaints from users.

The verification process will change, according to Twitter, although it is still unclear exactly how this will happen. Users are called upon to provide feedback on the planned policy.

The verification checks are used by Twitter to identify, for example, notable journalists and celebrities. In this way, Twitter prevents users from pretending to be someone who they really are not.

Six types of accounts

Twitter says it wants to identify at least six types of accounts. This includes governments, brands of organizations, news, sports and entertainment agencies and activists.

The social network also wants to offer more ways in 2021 why users can identify themselves on Twitter, for example by attaching a label to an account.
