Twitter wants to increase revenue, is considering selling some usernames

Last October, Twitter was bought by Elon Musk, head of the Tesla car company, for $44 billion (now roughly CZK 982 billion). He said last month that he wants to start removing inactive accounts and free up 1.5 billion usernames. At the same time, only some of them have value, for example the names of famous people, brands or generally popular names.

According to Reuters, the takeover of Twitter is accompanied by chaos and controversy. Since October, Musk has slashed company spending, ordered layoffs, cut other costs and halted payments to some suppliers. At the same time, they are trying to find new ways to make money as Twitter experiences a sharp decline in advertising revenue. For example, Twitter wants to charge for the use of the blue icon indicating a verified profile. The company also filed with the US Treasury the documents needed to process the payments.

Musk said he has a vision and wants to create an “app for everything” similar to China’s WeChat platform. More than a billion people use it to find news, connect with friends, make payments and order food.
