Twitter is currently actively working on new features for its app. For example, there are now the short-lived “Fleets” or “Spaces”, which started as a competitor to Clubhouse. A brand new feature now allows iPhone users to create their own short GIF videos using Twitter.
The GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file format is known on the Internet for being able to display moving images. What began with pixelated animations in the early years of the Internet has now developed into its own form of expression. Popular or iconic scenes from films, series or videos are often shared on the Internet as GIFs. The file format is also an integral part of meme culture. Creating a moving GIF is not that easy without a certain know-how. A new Twitter function makes this easier now. With just a push of a button you can directly record a GIF with the camera of your iPhone (here with a contract).

How to make a GIF with Twitter
Creating a GIF for Twitter is now done in a few seconds. To do this, in the current version of the app, simply click on the button to create a tweet in the lower right corner. There you first select the camera and then the “GIF” function. Now you just record a short video and you’ve got the right looping GIF. Finally, you can add a text to the whole thing before you send out the short video.
Does that sound easy? It is. But we have already mentioned a catch. Because the feature is still activated exclusively for iOS. Twitter has not yet announced whether Android users will also be able to enjoy GIFs that can be created quickly. However, it is at least very likely that the function will also appear for Android in the future. The delay is probably because a new feature for Android needs to work seamlessly on more different devices. Development for iOS is therefore often faster.
Exclusive Twitter features
Another feature is currently only available to selected users: the downvote. This means that some accounts can not only like the tweets of other users, but also downgrade them. However, it remains unclear when and whether this function will be available to all users across the board.
What do you think of the way Twitter is playing out new features? Do you feel like a second-class user with your Android smartphone, or do you, as an iOS user, not want to be made into beta testers in disguise? Feel free to vote for this under this article.
