Twitter to display warning for “foul language” answers – IT Pro – News

Twitter comes with a feature that warns users before publishing a tweet with ‘bad language’. Users can change their mind before publishing the tweet, although they can also choose to post the tweet unaltered.

Twitter announces the rollout his website. The feature displays a notification when users try to post a reply to a tweet using bad language. “When the going gets tough, you sometimes say things you don’t mean”, the company wrote during a previous test of the function. “To give you a chance to rethink your answer, we ran a limited experiment on iOS with a prompt that allows you to revise your answer before publishing if it contains language that could be harmful. to be.”

The function is not entirely new. In 2020, Twitter already tested this feature, although it later discontinued the test. The feature was retested in February, writes 9to5Mac. The feature should now actually be released. According to Twitter, 34 percent of people chose to edit or delete their original tweet after seeing the notification. People who saw the report wrote an average of eleven percent fewer ‘offensive’ tweets in the future, the platform claims.

After the initial tests, Twitter made several changes. Initially, the system could not properly distinguish between sarcasm or friendly teasing, but this must have improved by now. The system now also takes into account the relationship between the sender and the recipient of a tweet with foul language. “If two Twitter users follow each other and interact regularly, they are more likely to have a better understanding of the desired tone of communication.”

The Verge writes that the feature will roll out to iOS users using the app in English starting Wednesday. The feature should be available for the Android version of Twitter “in the next few days.” It is not clear if and when the feature will be rolled out for other languages or the web version of the platform.
